General Committee Meeting 15/12/18
—by David Pearce, Honorary Secretary
The General Committee, chaired by
Commodore Tony Mobbs, dealt with the
following business:
►
►
Noted the content of three RYA
webinars concerning the future of
►
sailing clubs and agreed to pass the
issue to the Membership Committee for
further consideration.
► Agreed to write to Gillian Keegan MP to ►
voice our concern about the apparent
demise of Project Kraken, the anti-
marine crime initiative.
► Agreed an amended list of Honorary
Members of the Club for 2019.
► Agreed that, with membership
►
subscriptions static, likely higher
inflation and probable additions to staff,
we should plan for a lower surplus in
2019; the full draft budget for 2019 will ►
be presented at the January meeting.
►

Agreed to make two maximum
mortgage prepayments at a discount in
December and January and then to pay ►
off the remaining amount in the early
part of the New Year.
Agreed to pursue proposals for an
additional, more sophisticated
conservatory extension. Expenditure
was approved subject to planning
consent and background assurances
from the supplier, and given that the
waterfront project was unlikely to
require significant funding during the
next 12 months.
► Discussed strategy for managing a
membership waiting list should it be
considered necessary to introduce one.
► Agreed that we should apply to become
an RYA Joining Point.
Noted that a “silver sailors” lunch event
for senior members, organised by the
Motor Section, had been successful
and it is intended to continue with
these.
Approved a raft of revised Club Policies
and two new policies on equality and
procurement.
Heard that the bridgeheads project had
now expanded to cover the whole
waterfront and that this needed to be
scoped out; no expenditure will be
agreed until there is a clear project plan
with milestones and, in any event, no
major expenditure is expected to be
required in 2019.
Noted that we have 1020 memberships
prior to the January renewals round.
Discussed whether a limit should be
imposed on the number of guests
signed in by a member on a single
occasion; no conclusion was reached
and it was agreed to look at some
historical data and remit the matter to
the Board Sub Committee for
consideration.
The next General Committee meeting is on
19 January 2019 at 10:00.
