Chichester Yacht Club Magazine February 2020 | Página 4

I am delighted to see the end of January which has been a very wet month for most but a very dry one for me and I shall look forward to celebrating in style the start of February. January is always a busy time for the office team with all the subs renewals, the designing and printing of all sectional and training leaflets, updating all our Club lit- erature/stationery and website, as well as conducting annual reviews such as our risk assessments for all Club operations. In previous years, the Club was closed for two days to enable staff training. While we have chosen not to close the Club this year, we will still be conducting all mandatory training, relying on smaller groups as well as more online training which gives us greater flexibility. Twelve of us spent a day revalidating our first aid train- ing or taking the course for the first time, thus ensuring that there is always a qualified first aider on duty at the Club. From that meeting, we decided to move the location of the defibrillator onto the other side of the wall to avoid any possible damage caused by heat from the nearby radiator. As you will all be aware, the Club is now [mostly] cashless. What this means in practice is that we only accept debit cards or members’ cards at the bar or at the hatch. (We stopped taking credit cards two years ago due to high bank charges). If wanting to make a cash payment onto your member’s card, you will still be able to do so at the office, at least until the end of March. Cash will also be accepted for all payment at the tea bar or the dinghy entry desk until further notice. Look out for our new menus, with redesigned format, at the beginning of this month which we hope you will like. A reminder that if you were 70 years young by the end of December 2019 and have been a member of the Club for 20 or more continuous years, you are eligible to receive a loyalty reward of £50 (paid onto a separate “loyalty" card. Please check with the office if you think this applies to you; unless we have your date of birth, we won’t know if you are eligible. Once the credit is spent, you can either hand the card back to the office for safe keeping or keep it at home until the following year as we don’t re-issue new cards every year. We credit the £50 towards the beginning of February. If you successfully introduce a new member to the Club (either as a full family or individual) you will receive the equivalent of half the joining fee onto your member’s card as a thank you. That is £50 for a family or £37.50 for an individual member. Just make sure they write your name on their application. Current member benefits include: a 20% discount on food, drinks and RYA training courses; discounted rates on room hire at Chich- ester Yacht Club for all your events, big or small; 20% discount on berths in Port Chantereyne; free RYA VHF/DSC radio course with Chichester Marine Training (NB that the exam fee still applies); 15% discount with Aqualiving. Other discounts are available from Witterings Fitness and A-Plan Marine insurance (see advert in the magazine or the Club Programme). We would like to develop the range of member benefits further so let us know if you think you can help. 4
