By Tony Mobbs, Commodore Adjusting to our new normal It has been fantastic to see so many members again at the Club since we re-opened in early July. It has been pleasing to talk to so many of you and to catch up. Things may still feel a little strange at the moment until we all adjust to our “New Normal”. Many members have commented how they feel safe in the Clubhouse with everyone wearing their masks, some have even said the Clubhouse is the only place they are still visiting. In addition, we have introduced our new hosted table service. Again, we have received a lot of positive feedback on this service from our members and guests. It also presents us with some other opportunities, for example, in providing additional side orders and starters. We still have lots to learn and we would welcome any feedback from you as to how we can keep improving your experience with us. I can see this new service staying with us for some time to come. Our ever-popular Cruising in Company programme has started up again with some adjustments to the programme, depending on the status of various marinas around the Solent. The Dinghy Racing programme is getting back to normality with an increase in numbers over recent years. A big thank you to all the section committees for making this all happen for us. Welcome to our new members Since we reopened the Club in early July, we have welcomed a number of new members to the Club. This now brings our current membership back to the level we experienced before the lockdown. I would like to personally welcome you all to the Club and I hope to see you at the Club very soon. Eat Out to Help Out The Club has signed up to the Government’s Eat-Out to Help-Out scheme. So if you are eating at the Club on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays throughout August then you can receive up to £10 off your meal and soft drinks. The scheme does not apply to takeaway and alcohol sales. To help speed up the process and not delay you paying your bills, the Club has decided that the discount will be calculated after you leave and will be added to your card for next time you come to the Club. Sad News I am sorry to report the recent passing of Chris Savage. Chris was a member of the Club for many years and was our treasurer and Commodore. Chris was instrumental in arranging the loan which enabled us to build the new Clubhouse as we see it today. In recent years he had been very active within the Chichester Harbour Federation and was its current Chairman. He will be missed by many both in the Club and in the wider harbour community. Can you spare some time? Currently we have a very successful Club, which is the envy within the harbour. This success is down to those members who give up some of their time to ensure the rest of us enjoy our time within the Club. At the Club’s and Sections’ AGMs we select the committees who will either run the Club or your section for the next year. We are continually looking for volunteers to help run the Club and keeping the sections active. If you have some spare time and would like to support the Club then please either contact your Rear Commodore, or myself or the Office for more information. It is a great way to meet other members of the Club and have your say in the future. It only involves giving up a few hours each month but it does make a difference to us all. Hope to see you at the Club soon Please keep safe and healthy! 3
