Ensure the school is well positioned to transition to the new Level 1 standards in 2024 without compromising student achievement or the breadth of academic opportunities available to students .
Link to Strategic Plan Goals : Goal 1 : People . Goal 4 : School Culture .
Historical Position The Realignment of Standards ( RAS ) project is set to be mandated at Level 1 across NZ in 2024 . Throughout 2022 and 2023 , HNHS has been a pilot school for the Level 1 Geography and Numeracy standards . This has provided a useful insight into the proposed changes but across the school a considerable amount of planning and professional learning is required to ensure a seamless transition to the new standards
2023 Goal
Across every department , Level 1 course structures will be developed that incorporate the RAS . The plans will indicate how assessments link to the NZC and key course content . The plans will also show how assessments are to be administered throughout the school year . This will be reviewed by the SLT to ensure that the school-wide implications of the new assessments are well considered before the start of 2024 .
Course structures and assessment plans will also be scrutinized to ensure that they are consistent with trends followed elsewhere in NZ and meet the needs of the HNHS school community .
