Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue Chief Deric Weiss made it official at the August Civic Affairs Committee meeting that TVF & R is planning a paramedic substation at the Willamette Professional Building on Miley Road .
Chief Weiss indicated that the location will require modification of the leased space to include living and sleeping quarters for the firefighters , staging and equipment area , as well as a kitchen . When asked about the ambulance that will be stationed there , Chief Weiss told the committee that the department will use one of its portable buildings to house the equipment .
The desire and process of establishing a station on the south side of the Willamette River has been going on for several years . The southern boundary for TVF & R is Miley Road so locations were limited . With the help of General Manager Jim Meierotto and Public Affairs Advisor Greg Leo , the building often referred to as the Spine and Laser Surgery Center became the most practical choice . Placing a paramedic unit there is expected to cut response time to Charbonneau significantly . The move was strongly supported by Councilor Joann Linville who lives here in Charbonneau .
The timetable for the opening of the substation is dependent upon how fast the permitting process and construction takes . Chief Weiss indicated that the current projection is that the station would be open sometime in January .
With hot weather in the forecast , we are encouraging residents to make sure your cars are locked and garage doors shut . Also , don ’ t forget to lock your side entry garage door . While Charbonneau is considered very safe , there have been reports of thefts from unlocked cars and open garages . Make sure all vehicles are clear of personal articles or items of value .
• If you have a break-in , always call First Response at 503-207-5300 AND Clackamas County Sheriff Department at 503-655-8211 to file a report .
• See something ? Say something
• Don ’ t leave valuables in your car
• Hide accessories and chargers that indicate you have a mobile phone , GPS or other device kept in your car .
• Remove key cards , garage door openers and work or house keys
• consider installing a security system .
If you have a break-in , document the scene : take photographs of any damage to your vehicle and make a list of all stolen items .
Again , Charbonneau is a very safe community but we need to be reminded of things we can do to keep it that way . Let ’ s not become a target for thieves !
