Committee is seeking medically-trained volunteers

Hi neighbors ! Watch this column each month to find fun and exciting ways that you can be a part of emergency preparedness and public safety in Charbonneau .
Are you an MTR ? The Emergency Preparedness Public Safety ( EPPS ) Committee is once again putting out a call to anyone with medical training to join our cadre of Medically-Trained Residents ( MTRs ). Charbonneau has a network of medicallytrained folks who might lend our community their expertise in the
event of a disaster that would overwhelm first responders and we would like to expand the group !
Included are physicians , nurses , pharmacists , dentists , physical therapists , social workers and EMTs : any medically-oriented profession . The group meets only three times a year . MTR volunteers support the EPPS Committee , lend their expertise as we broaden emergency plans for the community and assist in a disaster scenario .
We have also provided education at some meetings . Examples include speakers from local and regional disaster planning , representatives from SERV ( state emergency registry of volunteers in Oregon ), Medical Reserve Corp ., CERT and professionals in disaster psychological trauma / resiliency . MTRs helped to develop a list of emergency first-aid supplies for HOAs to store as well as the supplies stored at the Clubhouse . They also had input into creation of a screening tool for assessment of acute post trauma symptoms provided to HOAs / captains . In the event of an actual disaster , HOA neighbors would provide first aid if local medical response is unavailable or unable to respond . MTRs could be called upon to do the same and provide triage advice or coordinate centralized care , however , we would never provide clinic or hospital-level care .
If you are an MTR , whether active , retired or even if your license has expired , your expertise is a valuable asset to our community . If you are interested , or need additional information , contact Sue Swanson by email at : nurseswan @ aol . com .
