Men ’ s Club golf season is right around the corner
The opening of the Men ’ s Club golf season is just around the corner ! We kick off with a New Member Coffee and nine holes of golf on Wednesday , March 17 . Our
MASON regular Men ’ s Club games begin on Saturday , March 27 .
Golf schedule for 2021
The Men ’ s Club golf schedule and games for Wednesday and Saturday play are now posted on the Men ’ s Club website at mc . golfcharbonneau . com under the “ Golf ” tab . Similar to last year , it ’ s likely that changes will need to be made to this schedule to accommodate changing COVID-19 requirements . Major changes to the schedule will be announced via email , but the best source for the current games will be what ’ s posted on the website .
Men ’ s 2021 Invitational
The original Men ’ s Club calendar for this year called for the 2021 Invitational to be played Aug . 5 and 6 . As a result of further discussion at our February board meeting , the general consensus of the group was that for several reasons this event could not be played as scheduled this year :
■ Business support of the Invitational would be difficult given the current status of many of our traditional business sponsors .
■ Lack of certainty about where we will be with COVID-19 vaccinations of Charbonneau residents .
■ Uncertainty about State of Oregon ’ s gathering rules .
■ Difficulty for guests traveling from out of town to participate in the event . After considering several alternatives , it was decided to have a “ Member- Member ” tournament this year in place of the Invitational . Details for this event are currently under development .
The “ Shoot Out ,” which was substituted for last year ’ s Invitational , has been added to the calendar and is scheduled for June 25-26 .
Men ’ s Club “ Mixers ”
As a follow-up to last month ’ s article on Golf Genius , the Men ’ s Club has decided to take advantage of this program ’ s capabilities to provide an electronic sign-up process for the club ’ s Wednesday and Saturday $ 5 games . Using this program will allow the balancing of team handicaps for Saturday ’ s team play and allow “ mixed ” foursomes for Wednesday when generally the games are individual scoring .
All members need to do is respond to an email “ invitation ” to get into these games and foursomes will automatically be created . Making this change mechanizes much of the sign-up process and it will make it easier for new members to get to know other players which has been an ongoing issue . Details of how this will work will be published prior to play beginning in March .
Holes in one
During all last year , the Men ’ s Club recorded three holes in one . It ’ s hard to believe , but so far this year , we have already had three holes in one in the first three months of the season . Congratulations to Art Warren ( Green 8 ), Gene Harp ( Yellow 2 ) and Tom Taylor ( Green 5 ) for holes in one . The Men ’ s Club holein-one season starts Nov . 1 and continues through Oct . 31 of each year . All Men ’ s Club members are automatically eligible for the hole prize pool as the cost of the program is included in their membership fee .
