Art exhibition available for viewing at the CCC
Landscapes by Charbonneau resident Mel Ulven is on display through June

new art exhibition is on display at the Charbonneau Country Club through the month of June .
Landscapes , an art exhibition by Charbonneau resident artist Mel Ulven , will be on display in the fireplace room from May 1 through June 30 .
There will also be a chance to meet the artist and join in on an informal conversation about abstract art June 6 from 3-5 p . m .
Landscapes is a showcase of multimedia work with an emphasis on collage .
Collage is a medium as diverse as it is politically charged . Emerging as a reaction to the First World War , collage allowed artists to interact with existing materials — anything from newsprint and
magazines to maps and tickets — ripping them apart and reassembling them , creating visually dynamic hybrids . Collage interrogates the fundamental concept of what it is to create art , while offering a prismatic reflection of the environment around us .
The works in this series are inspired by the colors , shapes and textures of the Pacific Northwest . Creating the work is a discovery and adventure . The intent is to invite viewers to join in on the journey of discovery and spark curiosity . Mel says , “ There is a joy and excitement in these works that is meant to be shared and I hope others receive .” He invites you to attend and looks forward to meeting new friends and neighbors .
Mel Ulven was born in Morehead , Minnesota and grew up in the Willamette Valley . He was given a full scholarship to the Museum Art School in Portland and was heavily influenced by his instructors Louis Bunce , Eunice Parsons , Mike Russo , George Johanson , Manuel Esquierdo , Doug Lynch and Robert Reynolds .
