More people returning items on time
I am full of optimism for a variety of reasons ! One , I ’ m pretty sure the warm weather is persistent now . Two , the incredible
VEDDER lush gardens show great promise for color and possibly food additions this summer . And … drum roll please … many of you are returning equipment to Sunshine in a more timely manner .
As we suggest at the time you are borrowing these items , you are very welcome to keep them through recovery , therapy , etc .
However , this is usually a similar time frame of a few months — perhaps two or three . Most physicians want you to function on your own as soon as possible . I ’ ve heard that the longer one uses an aid such as walkers , the less likely you will regain your original independence .
There will , of course , be times that strength will be diminished and in that case you must make the choice to purchase , or rent , permanent equipment . Unfortunately , Sunshine Service is limited with our Loan Agreement Program because of a relatively small inventory . We will do our best to help guide you to lasting options for your situation . We ’ ve got an amazing list of volunteers who have extra big hearts and a good ear for listening !
We are beginning to mingle again and are getting back into our regular activities that we sorely missed in 2020 . I ’ m watching the bees fertilize my apple blossoms , my raspberries , strawberries , etc . Family barbeques are on the planning list !
Take care of yourselves and watch out for the cracks in the sidewalks !

son Jared , 22 , decided to work with him and agreed to eventually take over the family business .
“ It ’ ll be his someday . It ’ s all on a silver platter ,” Nathan said . “ It supercharged me and because he wanted to come into it , I have given it a superhuman effort to build the business and upgrade our equipment , really so that he would have something that would be worth carrying on .”
Jared remembers helping his father when he was 6 before he started working in a more official capacity when he was 18 .
“ I do remember my dad would have pretty small jobs , mostly ( I would ) just be dragging brush and raking ,” Jared said , “ over and over and over , back in the same spots . I learned a good work ethic that way .”
Now Jared manages the company ’ s small crew and does a lot of the ground jobs himself , including Japanese-style aesthetic pruning , tree removal and stump grinding . Nathan operates the business side and Sandi is the CFO .
While Jared said he initially wanted to attend school to be a therapist and pave his own path , he realized working for Good News Tree Service provided him purpose , income and freedom .
“ I ’ m shocked at how much meaning it ’ s provided since I actually decided to take it seriously ,” Jared said .
Jared added that by working with his father , he has gotten to know him and the quality of his character better .
“ This man has dedicated his life to these people and there ’ s something to that , there ’ s a virtue to that ,” Jared said . “ He ’ s a very devout Christian and I think that has a lot to do with it ... He ’ s had a good foundation to base his work ethic and his values on .”
And Jared said the work ethic and values have rubbed off on him .
“ We ’ re closer than ever ,” he added .
