Vintage tractors come to NWREC
The North Willamette Research and Extension Center ( NWREC ) received a very special gift before the year end . The Casale Family — longtime vegetable farmers one mile west of I-5 at the Charbonneau exit — donated two Allis Chalmers tractors to the center . The tractors were purchased in the early 1950s and had been regularly used until Joe Casale retired from farming five years ago .

What ’ s the buzz ?
Greetings from Bales and Borst ( the bees ) also known as CWGA copresidents for 2021 ! We ’ re looking forward to an exciting year and hoping we don ’ t get stung on our golf connection to the farming community .
“ Both Joe , and his dad , Joe Sr ., were visionary leaders in the agriculture community here in French Prairie for many years . Joe Sr . help formed the North Willamette Horticultural Society in the mid-1950s . Today , this organization sponsors one of the largest annual educational meetings for vegetable and fruit growers in the region .”
Bondi shared that the Casales always worked closely with the researchers and extension faculty at NWREC and OSU to address critical challenges facing farmers in the region .
The Casale tractors have been fully restored and will be used on the farm during farmer field days and on display for public events . The December issue of NWREC ’ s newsletter , Down on the Farm , included a cover story about this donation .
