Jim attends Rise & Shine as well as Functional Movement and credits the classes with his improved health .
“ I have a bad back ,” he explained . “ Through exercise , my legs , shoulders and arms have gotten much stronger and I ’ m not in as much pain . Getting in and out of the community ’ s pool used to be a struggle , but I ’ m finding it ’ s gotten much easier .”
These are the kind of stories that bring Amy joy . She wants residents to see beyond the lifting of weights and stretching to envision how the exercises will help them perform activities they enjoy such as playing billiards and bean bags .
“ I explain the ‘ why ’ behind each workout ,” she said . “ How can we access joy and do pleasurable activities if we ’ re in pain or sick ? The more we move our joints , the less pain we ’ ll have . Do you know how much core strength is needed to golf or sit and quilt ?”
SpringRidge resident Marilyn Owens concurs , adding she believes in “ using it or losing it .” She relishes the convenience of having a wealth of fitness classes available within steps of her residence . Though she ’ s been a lifelong fitness enthusiast , living at the community has made her workouts more effortless .
“ When I moved in nearly two years ago , a walking map was included in my welcome package ,” she said . “ I ’ ve found that even going for a stroll is more convenient and a lot safer than when I was walking on a public street . Plus , I ’ ve gotten to meet some great people along the path .”
