August 2020 THE CHARBONNEAU VILLAGER 19 CCC DIRECTORS PROVIDE ACTIVITY CENTER UPDATE Plans, drawings will be presented to the community Aug. 26 By ANNE SHEVLIN AND JIM GIBBONS The news you have all been waiting for is finally here! The plans and schematic drawings for the new Charbonneau Activity Center will be presented at a community-wide meeting Wednesday, Aug. 26, at 6:30 p.m. Residents will recall that the CCC Board of Directors received overwhelming support for this project at a community-wide meeting, via a vote Jan. 28 of this year. Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, the Aug. 26 meeting will be held virtually via a webinar, meaning you will be able to log onto your computer from the comfort and safety of your own home, yet still be able to view the plans up close, have the ability to ask questions and respond with comments. Our architect and other building consultants will walk us through the plans and be available to answer questions. In our last article, we described in detail about how the work of the building task force evolved from designing one new building, to three different projects: the new Activity Center, an event center in the existing clubhouse with a proposed restaurant and year-round pickleball courts. At the webinar, Charbonneau residents will receive information about the new Activity Center building. Two additional options will also be presented to the full community for review and feedback. Residents will be able to view plans for the clubhouse remodel, including a restaurant with a variety of dining options and the pickleball facility. At the conclusion of the presentation, we will be polling you as to whether or not these additional projects (No. 2 and No. 3) are important for the future of Charbonneau. Let’s make that really clear: No plans have been finalized to build a restaurant in the current clubhouse or to develop a pickleball facility. Many hours of consultation and design development have taken place. The next step is to present all of the information to the community, and to seek feedback regarding the ideas for the events center and pickleball courts. It is vital that we receive your opinion on these projects. During the webinar, residents will receive information regarding how the new Activity Center will be financed. In addition, they will be able to look at plans for a restaurant and partial remodel of the clubhouse and the pickleball facility. Timelines for each project will be presented. Estimated pricing information will be provided, and residents will be asked to respond with questions and comments. The board will make decisions based on this feedback. You will receive an invitation via email to attend the webinar Aug. 26 and be provided with specific instructions on how to register. Be sure to mark your calendar now. This is an event you won’t want to miss. All task force meetings continue to be open to interested Charbonneau residents. Since we are currently holding online meetings, please contact either Kathy Fuller or Anne Shevlin if you are interested in learning more or wish to attend a meeting. Civic affairs By WAYNE RICHARDS Looking at accomplishments from legislative session A couple of things. Our legislature passed 30 bills in three days. I’m proud of them. On the Charbonneauintheknow.com (not RICHARDS affiliated with CCC or the CCC Board) website under State, all the actions are attached and the ones highlighted in yellow apply to us. Nothing real serious this time. What’s the wakeboard issue all about? Most of you know or have heard about it. Here is a summary. The Marine Board will decide whether to allow boards that create wakes for wakesurfing or not. Supporters of wakeboarding say that if it is kept in See CIVIC AFFAIRS / Page 20 Appraise & Insure your Precious Jewelry Without Leaving Charbonneau • 20 years as exclusive appraiser for Fred Meyer Jewelers in the greater Portland area I Live in Charbonneau • I can come to you • You can come to me • Privately meet at club house Robert Bauman G.G.
