Spring is blooming at the library
Hello library fans , Welcome to May ! Here at the big library , we have been waiting so long for the nice spring weather to arrive and stay for more than a day or two . But the signs lately have all been positive . Upstairs , in
MARTIN our dark and scary attic , after some intemperate banging was heard one day , we dared to check , and found that another morass of ducts and tubes had been grafted to our preexisting ventilation system — as sure a sign of spring for all of us as the appearance of new buds on the cherry trees !
And beneath the ever-growing ductwork , the library is changing too . After nearly 25 years of use , our threadbare old furniture is this week being replaced by a rainbow of fancy new furniture . If only some of these old chairs could tell stories ... you probably wouldn ’ t want to hear them ! Well , except this one ...
Do any of you remember the rocking chair with the loud squeak ? For years , anyone sitting in the chair would stop rocking after just a moment , due to the din , and concomitant attention from those around . But every couple of months , someone with shall we say , less-than-acute hearing would settle in for a comfortable time . The rocker would shriek over and over ( and over ) for 5 , 10 , 15 minutes . Library staff was in a quandary — how do you ask someone to stop rocking when they ’ re sitting in a rocking chair ? Mostly , we ’ d just try to ignore it , and hope that the hearing-impaired rocker would eventually tire before anyone else came to complain . And mostly , that ’ s what happened , but even today if you want to give any of our library staff a few nervous tics ,

On Tuesdays , May 3 , 10 , 17 , and 24 , from 10:30-11 a . m ., join us for Toddler and Babytime LIVE ( on Zoom ). Babies and toddlers unite while building early learning skills for reading readiness ! Librarians Brad and Jo shake it up with engaging songs , stories , and play for your babies and toddlers . Join Brad and Jo live on Zoom @ 450- 269-930 for a fun and interactive storytime !
On Wednesday , May 4 at 10:30 a . m ., you and the kids can groove in person in the big , drafty Stein-Boozier Barn for Storytime at the Barn ! Please note that there is no heat in the barn , so dress for the weather . Seating is on the floor of the barn with some chairs around the perimeter .‚¬€ 1
