Residents of SpringRidge at Charbonneau are finding the active retirement community ’ s maintenancefree and “ lock and leave ” lifestyle enables them to continue leading independent lives and provides the freedom to pursue their passions and interests .

“ I travel a lot so it ’ s incredible knowing I can pack my bag and simply close my door on the way out ,” said Kay Williamson . “ The wonderful staff takes care of everything while I ’ m gone , even the mail . Before moving here , I ’ d worry about garbage collection and whether the shrubs would be watered . Living at SpringRidge makes it much easier to travel .”

She ’ s preparing for an upcoming trip to Lake Superior in Michigan and plans to visit Colorado and Glacier National Park in Montana later this year .

Her neighbor Barb Kunkel also credits SpringRidge ’ s “ lock and leave ” lifestyle with making traveling with family and friends more convenient . She travels three times a year , with her next trip planned for Brasada Ranch in Powell Butte .

“ Traveling is a lot of fun and now I

can do it as much as I want ,” she said . “ Best of all , I don ’ t have to worry about my residence when I ’ m gone .” In addition to the freedom that comes with life at SpringRidge , residents enjoy the independence they are afforded thanks to being relieved of the burdens of home maintenance .

“ I raised a family of four by myself and learned to be independent very early in life . From traveling to being part of local groups , I have always enjoyed having control of my day ,” explained Cynthia Carter . “ At Spring- Ridge , I continue this independence . In fact , it ’ s been enhanced . Having the freedom to spend each day as I wish truly enriches my soul . Also , having the ability to travel at will is a real plus in being independent .”

And , her days are quite busy - by choice , of course ! She moved to SpringRidge nine months ago from California and has established many wonderful new friendships . She ’ s a member of the Hospitality Committee and volunteers in the on-site sundry shop .

“ If the opportunity exists , I try to take advantage of it ,” she said . “ I love all the many Zest Department planned outings such as going to museums . It ’ s been a great way to get to know the area .”

With day-to-day responsibilities such as cooking and housekeeping included in the monthly fee , resident Jeanne Gaylord says she can now spend more quality time with family . Among her favorite pastimes is baking cookies with her great-grandchildren who live nearby .

“ I come and go at my choosing ,” she said . “ Plus , there is wonderful transportation available at SpringRidge .”

Williamson finds having choices

about how to spend the day increases her sense of independence among her neighbors and herself . The on-site restaurant , for example , offers 12-hour dining , enabling residents to dine at their convenience .

“ I ’ ve visited other senior living communities and many require residents to dine at a certain time or have assigned seating ,” she explained . “ I love the wealth of choices - from dining to activities and everything in between . It ’ s truly what sets Spring-
