The Niners

By MARY FIEWEGER

Maureen Larsen is this month ’ s seasoned Niner

Happy New Year ! Hope everyone enjoyed a beautiful Christmas and fun New Year ’ s eve .
Only three months away from
FIEWEGER starting our 2022
season . Lots of fun events and scrambles being planned .
The executive board was busy and has approved a major change for payouts . We will no longer take money from the Niners treasury to issue payouts for low gross and / or low net for all flights and for low putts . Only those that wish to participate in payouts can do so . When you are signing in at the Pro Shop you will be asked if you want to participate in payouts . If so , you will pay $ 3 . This money will be used for payouts to all winners .
It is evident that catering and food costs have increased . The better option would be to subsidize the cost of lunches for our events .
Thanks to all that have been signing up for committees ! We still need a chair for publicity . This person will write the monthly Niners article for the Villager newspaper . I will help . The committee sign-up book is
in the clubroom next to The Turn .
Seasoned Niner by Cheryl Barnum
Our Seasoned Niner this issue is Maureen Larsen . Knowing all about plants , the Niners have a member that has all the answers to questions regarding gardening . Maureen Larsen is well-known for her knowledge of plants . She and her husband , Laurin , owned a nursery off Stanford Road for 40 years . Laurin worked full-time for a company while Maureen ran the nursery . Laurin is an officer with Charbonneau Men ’ s Club . He was a volunteer deputy for the Clackamas County Search and Rescue posse . He is good at searching for golf balls ! They also owned a nursery in Hillsboro . Maureen was very successful with the nursery and especially enjoyed her customers . They hosted a spring gala which included craft sales , and an antique show and strawberry festival that helped the vendors sell their wares . Her favorite part of the nursery was working with the flowers and says , “ they don ’ t talk back to you and aren ’ t moody .”
Maureen grew up in White Salmon , Washington and Laurin is from OSU and a graduate of PSU . They didn ’ t meet in college , but met on the ski slopes ! Maureen enjoyed golf last year and because of golf genius she has been able to meet more ladies and play with gals of different handicaps . She said Laurin was the one to help her with her golf . It paid off as she got a hole-in-one on July 5 , 2021 and was named “ Most Improved ” player for the Niners 2020 season . She has helped out with many functions and was vice president and
