closed since the beginning of the pandemic shutdown in March , 2020 .
Faculty , staff and invited guests have been allowed restricted access during the past 20 months . All research projects in the fields , greenhouses and laboratories have continued . Most work has been outside during this time . Group education programs have been limited and outside only .
“ It ’ s been an unbelievable journey for all of us at NWREC , in the community , around the state and country . It will just be good to get back to some semblance of normal after the holidays ,” said Mike Bondi , NWREC director .
Mike says that the center has been waiting to repopulate their offices and meeting spaces at NWREC until completing the renovation of their HVAC system and to upgrade indoor air quality .
“ Our HVAC was original equipment from 35 years ago . There was no outside air intake designed into the system so we have been breathing recirculated air . Our new system has much better comfort and zone controls , much higher energy efficiencies , maximum air filtration for particulates and virus control — plus outside air intake and exhaust .” The new HVAC was completed in late October following a six-week construction project . A COVID-19 deep cleaning was completed by a commercial contractor in late November . Faculty and staff have been invited to fully occupy their offices during the month of December .
“ We will spend December reconnecting with one another . And , we will begin scheduling public meetings and educational programs , classes and workshops to begin in January . Our front gate and doors at the main office will reopen to the public on Monday , Jan . 3 at 8 a . m . Prevent crime during the holidays

Although security incidents and crimes are infrequent within the Charbonneau District of Wilsonville , there has been a recent uptick in the number of suspicious incidents reported in the community and so we remind you , “ If you see something , say something !” Call the office during the week at 503-694- 2300 and the First Response Security Patrol from 8-3 p . m . at 503-207-5300 .
The Charbonneau Country Club staff interacts on a regular basis with the First Response Security Patrol that maintains a daily presence in Charbonneau as well as with the Wilsonville Police Department . The upcoming holidays require extra vigilance and prevention .
In fact , Wilsonville Chief of Police Rob Wurpes advises the following :
Keep your car locked and free of items in plain view .
More than
40 years of Legal Experience you can trust
Place packages and recent purchases in a locked trunk .
Reminder that there is no door-todoor solicitation allowed in the city of Wilsonville and its Charbonneau neighborhood .
Don ’ t answer the door to a solicitor or to anyone you don ’ t recognize . Call the office to report solicitors .
If you plan to be away during an evening or an extended period your best prevention is to have a neighbor watch out for your home during your absence .
Consider shopping with a friend or two during the holidays . It is always helpful to have a person you can call upon , if necessary .
Try to use credit cards for your inperson purchases and not cash .
Watch for packages that you expect to be delivered . Ask a neighbor to take delivery if you are away .
Try to place items on your porch or at your front door where they cannot be viewed from the street .
Chief Wurpes ’ final reminder is that he and his department are “ here 24 hours a day , 365 days of the year to help you out .” Call 503-655-8211 or 911 for crimes in progress .
