Airport growth , tolling are issues to consider when voting
The election is well underway
Ballots were available Oct . 19 and need to be returned to Clackamas County by election day , Nov . 8 .
SWITZER By law , the CCC Board remains out of
“ politics .” That is a wise decision for multiple reasons . However , during an election year , government policy intertwines with those seeking to make that policy . That is the situation we are facing here in Charbonneau .
On the airport expansion issue , one of the candidates for governor has long been an advocate for the growth

and expansion of the Aurora Airport . She was the creator of the “ through the fence ” legislation that allows businesses to have unrestricted access to the state run facility . Needless to say , her election would increase the chances of the airport expanding its runway by over 1,000 feet , making increased noise and jet flyovers a virtual certainty .
On the ODOT tolling issue , several candidates for state office have come out strongly against tolling . Several incumbents , even though they may have voted for tolling in the past , are now on record as being opposed . It
appears that ODOT is well on its way to instituting tolling on both I-205 and I-5 , regardless of the opposition . If it is to be stopped , or , at the very least , was to allow Charbonneau residents to go to Wilsonville without having to pay to cross the bridge , then that fight will be at the legislative level .

Who thought that changing the I-5 on-ramp was a good idea ? That should be an easy question . However , we have asked multiple people at ODOT and cannot get a straight answer . So , the city of Wilsonville has submitted a “ Freedom of Information Act ” ( FOIA ) request to ODOT . The purpose is to obtain the genesis of this incredibly stupid idea and work on getting it changed .
Crosswalks
Many Charbonneau residents walk French Prairie Road . This was highlighted during the first few months of COVID-19 and continues today . Since mid-2020 , John McLain , Patrick Donaldson , Gary Newbore and I have made concerted efforts with the city to address the fact that our crosswalks need maintenance . That effort has taken much longer than it should have . However , I can report that last year , the city contracted with an engineering firm to survey all of the crosswalks throughout the city . Their report was completed and a review of our crosswalks has been submitted . It is our understanding that funding for the project should be available in the spring , with work starting shortly thereafter . There are many areas that need to be improved and brought up to current standards . This includes better identification of the crosswalks and repainting with more reflective paint . Better signage at the crosswalk itself and a better notice of a crosswalk ahead are in the final report submitted to the city .
