“
His physical tools, that’s very very helpful.
We knew that when he was coming
up as a freshman that he was something
we could really work with. We
thought basketball would be his thing,
but luckily hard work showed him that
baseball was a path he could take in
his future. He started working at it and
with all the hard work he’s put in over
the years, his stats are second to none
and it shows with the opponents who
play against him.

DEWITT HEAD COACH
SHANE SIKKEMA
The Central DeWitt Sabers finished as state runner-ups last season, and
All-State utility player Alex McAleer made his impact known.
McAleer drove in 27 runs while batting a .303 last season on a team surrounded
by senior talent. His lanky 6-05 frame proved helpful early on. He impressed most
of all on the mound, pitching over 60 innings and keeping his ERA just .79 while
striking out 78.
“Typically our program, we fast track the kids we see,” DeWitt head coach Shane
Sikkema said. “We plan that good players are going to play three years for us. His
ability to be a good teammate, follow leadership and be a good leader himself. He’s
took to heart what the coaching staff and older teammates got across to him to be a
better player.”
