Newton placed at state for the fourth consecutive season, going the distance in each of his final five matches on the way to placing third in Class 2A at 126 pounds, closing out his career with a senior season record of 59-3 including wins in his first 50 matches of the past season. Newton finishes his career with 197 career victories and secured more pins than any Davis County wrestler in program history.

Slater Thomas completed a successful freshman season for the Rockets battling for his first-ever state championship in Class 2A at 106 pounds. In his first state tournament, Thomas was a key part of lifting EBF to the program’ s second-highest finish at state as a team going 43-2 winning South Central Conference and district titles before picking up a 91-second fall over Greene County Brennan Jacobs in his first-ever state tournament match. Thomas also scored 20 points in a quarterfinal tech fall win and made it to the finals with an 8-3 win over North Polk junior Charlie Boelman.

Davis came within 20 seconds of claiming the 138-pound state championship in Class 2A this past season, finishing his junior season with a 45-2 record. Davis helped EBF contend for the program’ s second state team championship, scoring three tech falls while scoring 51 points in just over 11 minutes to qualify for the title match before losing a 3-2 decision to 46-1 Burlington-Notre Dame senior Kaiden Dietzenbach in a battle of the state’ s top two wrestlers.
