KONY Comeback?

The video above was an attempt by "Invisible Children" to justify the KONY 2012 campaign by showing the ways in which it was successful--particularly in changing policy, gaining exposure, and raising money. The film's success is at best questionable, as it does not have anywhere close to the amount of views KONY 2012 did--100 million views in 6 days, to 161,000 in the span of almost a year. The film frames the KONY movement as ongoing, with many shots of young Americans participating in traditional forms of protest who still consider themselves a part of the movement. As KONY 2012 has faded away, a small group of young Americans have continued their commitment to the cause by attending a KONY march in Washington DC. One young woman is still attracted to the cause because "this situation is unique in that it is small and rather uncomplicated. You don’t need to know a whole lot to understand the situation." Although some young people may have joined the movement because it's seemingly simplistic goal was non-threatening, the campaign's ability to properly educate internet uers on the complexities of the issue is still in question.
