Music in Germany

Are you a Classical music lover?

If you are, keep reading to test your knowledge of some of you favorite composers.

Germany is a very important and valued part of the foundation of Classical music. Almost all of the most well-known and loved Classical musicians originated out of Germany. Musical education is very strongly encored in the lives of children in Germany so they can create new talented composers and musicians. Many of your favorite and most famous composers were either born, raised, or achieved in Germany.

Below is some information of your favorite composers!

Johann Sebastian Bach:

March 21, 1685- July 28, 1750

Johann Sebastian Bach was born in Eisenach,

Germany. He was a greatly adored Baroque

composer and mostly known for playing the organ.

At an early age, he was taught to play the violin and

the harpsichord by his father. It wasn’t till later that Bach learned to play the Organ from his uncle. In his time, he wrote many different works but never wrote an opera. Some of his most famous works include “Mass in B Minor” and “The well-tempered Clever.”

Ludwig Van Beethoven:

December 17, 1770- March 26, 1827

Ludwig Van Beethoven was born in Bonn, Germany.

He showed interest in music at a very young age as his

father taught him constantly day and night. He was truly

a child prodigy. His first work was published when he was

twelve years old and it was titled “Nine variations in C minor for piano.” In 1787, Beethoven traveled to Vienna to study under Mozart. In his lifetime he achieved great things including the writing of his 9 symphonies. His most famous are his 5th and his 9th. (The 5th symphony is available for listening at the top of the page!)

George Fredrich Handel:

February 23, 1685-April 14, 1759

George Fredrich Handel was a Baroque composer

born in Halle, Germany. As a child, Handel alway

s longed to study music but his father wouldn’t allow

him because he thought it would make a terrible income

. He wanted Handel to study law. Due to Handel’s passion for music, he studied it secretly with the support of his mother. Early on, he mastered the Organ with the help of Fredrich Withelm Zachow. Handel was also well known for writing operas and his first Opera debut was in 1704. Following that, he continued to produce operas for the Royal Academy of Music.. His most famous works are Messiah and Water Music.
