Another project that the participants took on was the creation of executive chairs out of used car tires. These large quantity of tires in Afon were used for burning cows during ceremonies and festivals which pose a great threat to the atmosphere.
Following the trend, Balogun Abubakar saw that in spite of the passion for education among adults and children, there was a problem of insufficient classroom furniture for school children.
Abubakar also learned about the problem of the wastage and improper disposal of tin cans which as a result, blocks the
drainage whenever there are heavy rains.
He saw the connection between these two challenges and began to create comfortable tables and executive chairs out of milk tins that can sit both children and adult comfortably.
The belief that there are enough assets deposited in every community drove Prikkle Academy to kick start another project in the same community. They named it Innovative Classroom which was intended to encourage, celebrate and permit the creative genius in the minds of school children. The organization’ s crew visit grassroots primary schools in and around Afon community with materials that can be transformed into innovative kid’ s projects which are both fun and can be adopted as easy learning tools.
With all these projects, Prikkle Academy envisions an Africa where rural youths are community builders and problems solvers, who are valued by everybody and play a critical role in national and international development.
This initiative can indeed transform grassroots communities to become self-sufficient through recognizing and utilizing their resources.
