Block Party Trailer History
The City of Arlington first launched the Block Party Trailer in May 2016 . Since then , there have been 208 block parties hosted by 121 different neighborhoods , 87 of which have used the Block Party Trailer . In 2023 , there have been 13 Block Party Trailer reservations , and more scheduled into the fall .
The goal of the Block Party Trailer is to advance community engagement goals in The American Dream City by providing a fun way for neighbors to get together . “ I think we should get to know our neighbors , and be helpful when we can ,” said Mamie Watts of Lake Arlington Highlands . “ We saw the City of Arlington logo on the trailer , and I ’ m glad I took the time to stop and see what ’ s going on in my city ” said Fabian Beltran of Lake Arlington Highlands .
Eligible neighborhood groups can reserve the trailer year-round by submitting an application at least seven days before their scheduled event . If available and approved , the trailer will be dropped off the Friday before the party and picked up the Monday after .
National Night Out
National Night Out is on Tuesday , October 3 this year and is intended to promote crime prevention , police-community partnership , and neighborhood camaraderie . It encourages people to turn on their porch lights , step outside , and get to know their neighbors at small block parties . Law enforcement agencies stop by the parties to offer public safety tips and ways to stay connected to their local police departments .
Neighborhoods can register their National Night Out event with the Arlington Police Department and apply for a street closure if needed . Any neighborhood planning to close a portion of a residential street for a block party must be reviewed and approved by City staff at least one week prior to the event . CITY ’ S TOOL SHARING PROGRAM HELPS ARLINGTON RESIDENTS CHAMPION GREAT NEIGHBORHOODS
Code Compliance has tools to help Champion Great Neighborhoods ! The Tool Sharing Program , which launched in February 2021 , offers Arlington residents a variety of tools and equipment to check-out free of charge to assist with property cleanup and home improvement .

Just imagine , your grass needs to be mowed , you attempt to start your lawn mower and it just sputters . Arlington ’ s Tool Sharing Program is here to help ! Simply visit the Tool Sharing Program website , browse the tool icons to choose a category that best suits your need , and fill out the online form to borrow a tool or piece of equipment to get the job done .
“ I ’ m very excited to see a Tool Sharing Program being established for the residents of Arlington ,” said Linda Finley , resident of Fish Creek community . “ Not everyone has a vehicle large enough to transport a lawn mower or power washer , or the funds to purchase / rent these items . The best part is being able to reserve the equipment , know it will be delivered and picked up without having to leave the house .”
