Highlights
New Bel Air on Abram Development (Continued)
Bel Air on Abram is inspired by the history of the neighborhood, which developed during the boom of the late
1950s as the General Motors Arlington Assembly Plant first debuted the classic Bel Air automobile. Bel Air and
Chieftain, the first vehicle to roll off the GM assembly line in Arlington, are among street names in the development.
“Bel Air is a phenomenal housing development in East Arlington where we’ve needed new housing stock. Most
of the homes were built here in the 50s and 60s,” Mayor Jeff Williams said. “Now we have quality homes at a great
price.”
Housing Channel is a HUD certified 501c(3) housing non-profit organization with CHDO (Community Housing
Development Organization) status to address critical housing needs in targeted areas in neighborhoods
throughout Tarrant County. The mission of Housing Channel is to revitalize distressed neighborhoods and to
increase the amount of quality, affordable housing available to low- and moderate-income families and individuals
with special housing needs. Programs and services include housing
development, down payment assistance, housing counseling, and
financial education.
The Arlington Tomorrow Foundation awarded a $100,000 grant
toward the Housing Channel’s Building Dreams Project, which is
designed to revitalize an area of East Arlington characterized by the
highest unemployment rates, lowest literacy rates, highest number
of public benefit recipients, and the lowest household incomes in the
county.

Neighborhood Matching Grants
Neighborhood landscaping, pedestrian walkway improvements, and
neighborhood entrance enhancements are just a few of the projects that will
receive funding this year through the City of Arlington’s Neighborhood Matching Grant
program.
On February 11th, the City of Arlington approved just over $100,000 in grant funds for seven
projects proposed by neighborhoods across The American Dream City.
Since 2007, the Neighborhood Matching Grant program has provided financial support for projects and
activities that foster civic pride, enhance and beautify neighborhoods, and improve neighborhood vitality and
participation.
