My Introduction to Karate, and Kung Fu
The Green Hornet was my favorite T. V. show because it had Bruce Lee playing the role of Kato. The Green Hornet and Kato fought crime with Kato using his Kung Fu, and Karate. I watched the show each week to view Kato and his Karate, and Kung Fu moves. My next favorite T. V. series was Batman. Batman was also a crime fighter that could out think, and out gadget any villain. His sidekick was‘ Robin’ the Boy Wonder. Together they would take on mobs and defeat them. I always wanted to see the Green Hornet and Kato go against Batman and Robin. I felt the Green Hornet would beat Batman and Kato would beat Robin.
Be careful what you ask for, you just may get it. The Green Hornet and Kato met Batman and Robin. Before the big fight, the Green Hornet told Kato to take it easy on Robin, because they were good guys also. Well, the big fight came and the Green Hornet beat Batman while Kato took it easy on Robin but Kato did kick Robin up on a table. I will never forget this great T. V. fight … no, not ever.
One day while I was walking down the hallway in school, going to my next class, I heard several voices say here comes James Rice. Some people stopped in their tracks to speak to this person who was in elementary school with me. Yes he was older and in a higher grade. After I got to my class, I asked a classmate whom James was. The response was, he is James Rice, and he knows Karate just like Kato. When James walked down the hall his head was up high, and he walked with great pride, and dignity. There was also a glow about him, and at that moment, I knew I wanted to have that glow as well. I also wanted to experience the walk of pride that James demonstrated. Afterwards, I started reading books on Karate, Judo, and Kung Fu. James Rice became my first Judo / Karate instructor, because I stayed on him and I asked questions each day I saw him.
What I learned from this is, Karate was something that took hard work 10
