Puppies, I can’ t believe we have puppies
My dogs name is Queenie and she is expecting puppies. One day I heard the most unusual sound coming from the basement. There was a squeaking sound that was nonstop. Tiptoeing into the basement, I noticed Queenie on a pile of cloths tending to three puppies. I ran up to tell my mother and she told me she knew it was coming soon and that Queenie would be OK. She further told me that there was nothing we could do to help her, because Queenie was born with the ability, given to her by God, to do it all by herself. In returning to the basement there were four puppies born. I did not know a dog could have more than one puppy at a time. Here I am looking at four beautiful puppies. I ran back up stairs to tell my mom there was four puppies. Then I told my mom I wanted to see a puppy born. She told me in order to see, it may take hours before Queenie dropped her next puppy. I must be willing to wait on it. I made up my mind I want to see this so I went back to the basement, and sat in a chair as I watched Queenie take care of her babies. She licked them constantly as they cried( wined). Curling up to keep them warm, I waited, waited, and waited. Queenie started moving in different positions trying to get comfortable, and before I knew it, a sack that looked like a chunk of moving liver was under her. Queenie started licking the weird shape object and a puppies head became transparent. Further licking and a body became transparent. It was pup number five, and I saw life brought forth for the first time. It was breath taking and amazing wrapped up in one. I ran up stairs to tell my mom how I witnessed a puppy being born for the first time. The next day there were eight puppies in all. Two were white, two were black, and the other four were black, brown, and white. This was also my first live exposure to witnessing the concept of genes. Genes are traits passed down from parents, grandparents, and great grandparents to their children. These traits show themselves in things like eye color, hair color, short tails, long tails, complexions, and the likes. Gene traits are present in animals and humans as well.
What I learned from this is, mothers take care of their young 5
