Mother of the bride

Choosing an outfit when you're the mother of the bride needn't be hell

The role of the mother of the bride is always a difficult

one. The bride needs a right

hand woman alongside

the maid of honour, to be supportive for the entire

planning process, through

the ups and downs. On

top of this, you also need

the perfect outfit to be photograph friendly for

the entire day.

Here’s our top tips on where

to go, what to buy and little

tips and tricks to remember

along the way.

Let the bride guide you

The most imperative tip of

all: follow the bride’s style,

colour and formality cues.

They are getting married,

they set to tone – whether

that’s at a traditional wedding venue in Wiltshire or a wild safari soiree in South Africa – ensure

you’re following suit. You’re a very important member of the wedding party, so let your daughter hint at the appropriate tone.

The wedding party

Typically, people will be conferring for weeks if not

months about their chosen

outfit; colours and tones

that complement one

another will always work

and they don’t necessarily

have to perfectly match

either. By biding your

time and waiting for the

bride to select the

bridesmaid’s dresses you will have some definite direction.

For example, if her ladies are wearing pale blue then a sophisticated navy would complement that perfectly.

Additional requirements

Dress for the weather,

cultural or religious customs. Whatever the wedding, failsafe reminders include: elegant, understated and appropriate.
