THE INAUGURAL ACCS ACTIVATE CAREER READINESS PROGRAM FOR CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS HELD ITS FIRST GRADUATION
The first class of participants in a new career readiness program aimed at increasing the number of Alabama Department of Corrections ( ADOC ) correctional officers held its first graduation , marking the successful completion of the six-week program hosted at Jefferson State Community College in Birmingham and Reid State Technical College in Evergreen . A total of 23 residents completed the program . As a result , they earned college credits and became eligible to enroll in the ADOC ’ s Corrections Academy , joining the Correctional Officer Class 2024-04 that began September 30 .

The Herpreneur Network International hosted the HER Awards 2024 , a prestigious black-tie event honoring influential and impactful women on September 20 at the Renaissance Montgomery Hotel & Spa . The event featured a Pink Carpet experience hosted by Shaleta Freeman and an awards ceremony hosted by Dr . Faye Shaw Jenkins and Charles Brasher . The HER Awards 2024 honored outstanding women across a variety of categories , including Trailblazer of the Year , Rising Star of the Year , Game Changer of the Year , Business of the Year and Humanitarian of the Year . For the first time ever in Alabama , 19 women received the prestigious Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award from President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris , recognizing their dedication and extraordinary contributions to society .
