Nicole Cosby , owner of Tre ’ ss Bien Salon , shares her perspective on these shifts , noting , “ We were heading into a shift pre-COVID , where many stylists began to purchase their brick-and-mortar and step out on faith to stand on their own . COVID came , and I began to see us moving back to sub-contracting ( booth rentals ) because it became challenging to stand alone in a business .” She highlights the impact of the pandemic on salon operations , stating , “ Many professionals closed their salons indefinitely and left the industry , while others have shifted into hair care consulting and offering consumer and professional classes on hair care .”
Cosby emphasizes that clients often remain loyal to their stylists , saying , “ Most clients will follow their stylist wherever she goes if the relationship is transparent , experienced and provides excellent customer service .” She believes that women and men who take their hair care seriously and do not simply jump on the next trend will continue to do business with their salon professional for years . This blend of personal connection and professional integrity remains crucial in a rapidly changing hair care industry .
Nicole Cosby is not your typical hair stylist , she has cultivated a deep passion for the hair and beauty industry from an early age , inspired by her mother who is also a beauty professional . She enrolled in cosmetology school to better understand the science behind hair care with a focus on caring for textured hair . Originally from Chicago , Cosby opened Montgomery ’ s first textured hair salon in 2015 , Tre ’ ss Bien , dedicated to the unique needs of kinky , coiled and curly hair . The name Tre ’ ss Bien , which means “ very good hair ,” reflects her mission to empower black women by providing education and care that affirms their dignity . With a commitment to using clean , environmentally friendly products , Cosby emphasizes the importance of professional , science-based hair care , steering clients away from misleading advice found online . She is dedicated to ensuring that black women receive the expert care they deserve , fostering confidence in their beauty and identity .

She shared her commitment to social justice and cultural awareness , stating , “ African Americans have been subjected to discrimination based on both their hairstyles and textures for centuries . We have always been forced to abandon our connections to our natural hair for the comforts of others . But , I am on a mission to change this narrative , to empower , equip and educate black and brown children never to abandon who they are , no matter what their families look like . I am here to show that change is possible and commit to making it happen .”
