ALABAMA COMMUNITY COLLEGE CONFERENCE ADDED WOMEN ’ S FLAG FOOTBALL TO ATHLETICS OFFERINGS
The Alabama Community College Conference ( ACCC ) announced the addition of women ’ s flag football to its athletics offerings . Women ’ s flag football is among the newest athletics offerings sanctioned by the National Junior College Athletic Association ( NJCAA ), and the ACCC will offer the sport to female student-athletes , beginning with the 2025-2026 academic year .

Leadership Montgomery held the 2024 Unity Award Breakfast on September 26 and awarded the 2024 Unity Award Recipient , Sheriff Derrick Cunningham . Through leadership , compassion and vision , Sheriff Cunningham has worked to create a community where all individuals , regardless of background , feel safe , respected and heard . Congratulations to the Unity Award Finalists , Charity Alpert ( Executive Director , CASA of the River Region ), Erin Beasley ( Executive Director , Helping Montgomery Families Initiative ), Kenyatte Hassell ( Urban Director , Young Life in Montgomery ) and Donna Marietta ( Executive Director , Meals on Wheels Montgomery AL Metro Area ).
ACCS AWARDED FOR ITS IMPACT IN KEEPING ALABAMA CLEAN
The Alabama Community College System and its 24 colleges collected 18,377 pounds of trash , debris and recyclables across the state during its 2024 “ Don ’ t Drop it on Alabama ” campaign . Alabama PALS ( People Against a Littered State ) presented the ACCS with the PALS Partnership Award at the Alabama PALS Governor ’ s Awards on November 12 in Montgomery . The ceremony recognized statewide cleanup efforts in litter control , recycling and environmental education .
SOUTHERN ORTHOPAEDIC SURGEONS EARNS ETHICS IN BUSINESS AWARD
Montgomery-based Southern Orthopaedic Surgeons has been awarded the Ethics in Business Award from the River Region Ethics in Business and Public Service Awards Program , sponsored by the Samaritan Counseling Center . SOS has locations in Montgomery , Prattville , Wetumpka and Tallassee .
THE MONTGOMERY CHAMBER RECEIVES $ 2.2 MILLION IN SEEDS GRANTS FOR SITE DEVELOPMENT
The Montgomery Chamber , in partnership with the Montgomery Water Works & Sanitary Sewer Board and Kershaw Investment Properties , LLC , has secured two SEEDS grant awards totaling $ 2.2 million . These grants , part of the State of Alabama ’ s Site Evaluation and Economic Development Strategy ( SEEDS ) program , will drive the development of new industrial sites , further fueling Montgomery ’ s rapid capital investment and job creation momentum . Montgomery was one of only three counties awarded multiple SEEDS grants . The funding will support the development of two critical industrial sites and complement the $ 3.5 billion in advanced manufacturing projects already in progress .
