MPS STUDENTS TO RECEIVE COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS FROM THE EQUAL JUSTICE INITIATIVE
The Equal Justice Initiative ( EJI ) will be providing $ 10,000 in college scholarships to scores of Montgomery public high school graduates over the next three years . School leaders will identify “ Legacy Scholars ” at each area public high school to receive a $ 10,000 college scholarship at graduation beginning in May 2023 . Next year , EJI plans to provide additional scholarships to students who participate in essay contests that involve reflections on the information presented at the Legacy Museum and the National Memorial for Peace and Justice . Montgomery ’ s new superintendent , Dr . Melvin J . Brown , met with EJI leadership last year and began discussing ways that the two institutions could provide more opportunities to teachers , staff and students .
AUM RECOGNIZED AS A TOP 10 “ MILITARY FRIENDLY ” CAMPUS FOR SIXTH YEAR
For the sixth consecutive year , Auburn University at Montgomery ( AUM ) has been designated a Top 10 “ Military Friendly School ” by Viqtory Media . According to a Viqtory Media survey , AUM earned a No . 9 ranking in the “ Small Public Schools ” category for 2023-2024 . AUM serves more than 800 military-affiliated students , including spouses and dependents . The annual recognition from Viqtory is the longest-running and most comprehensive review of college and university investments in serving military veteran and military-affiliated students .
JUNIOR LEAGUE OF MONTGOMERY CELEBRATED INTERNATIONAL WOMEN ’ S DAY WITH WOMEN ’ S LEADERSHIP SUMMIT
The Junior League of Montgomery held its sixth Annual Women ’ s Leadership Summit on March 10 at Wynlakes Golf and Country Club . The event was presented by Ronda Walker , Montgomery County Commissioner . For the past five years , the Women ’ s Leadership Summit has brought more than 400 women together annually for a sold-out event featuring dynamic keynote speakers , inspiring panelists and networking sessions . This year ’ s theme was Embracing Ambition . Committed to developing the potential of women , this annual event challenges and empowers women to become catalysts of progress and change in their personal and professional lives , to lead more fulfilled lives and continue to impact their communities .
RESICUM INTERNATIONAL LLC OPENING AVIATION TRAINING ACADEMY IN SELMA
Resicum International LLC , which provides flight training and maintenance support to government , commercial and general aviation customers , plans to open an aviation training academy at Craig Field in Selma that will prepare the next generation of industry professionals from around the world . Resicum plans to invest $ 1.3 million , creating 70 jobs over a threeyear period at its new operational hub at the former U . S . Air Force base in Dallas County .
