As part of its Juneteenth celebration in Montgomery, the Equal Justice Initiative welcomed a lineup of Grammy Award-winning artists for two days of powerful performances. On June 18, gospel greats Yolanda Adams and Donald Lawrence and Company took the stage at the Montgomery Performing Arts Center. The celebration continued on June 19 with a noon performance by the Jason Max Ferdinand Singers and concluded that evening with a jazz concert featuring acclaimed artists Cécile McLorin Salvant and Terence Blanchard at the Peace and Justice Memorial Center.

ALABAMA DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE NAMED ONE OF THE NATION’ S TOP ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ORGANIZATIONS

Business Facilities magazine has named the Alabama Department of Commerce one of its Economic Development Organizations of the Year, citing the state’ s investment in electric vehicle workforce development. The recognition highlights AIDT’ s $ 30 million Electric Vehicle Technology Center, currently under construction at the Alabama Robotics Technology Park in Tanner. Slated for completion in August 2025, the facility aims to prepare Alabama’ s workforce for the future of automotive manufacturing.
Faulkner University’ s Legal Studies program has received reapproval from the American Bar Association’ s( ABA) Standing Committee on Paralegals, affirming that the program continues to meet the standards set forth in the ABA Guidelines for the Approval of Paralegal Education Programs. The Standing Committee found that the program complies with the guidelines and announced it would recommend reapproval to the ABA House of Delegates during the association’ s annual meeting in August.

MONTGOMERY TECHLAB DEFENSE ACCELERATOR ANNOUNCES INAUGURAL COHORT

Montgomery TechLab announced the inaugural cohort of the MTL Defense Accelerator, a transformative initiative led in partnership with the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce and Treble One to position Montgomery as a regional hub for defense innovation and emerging technologies. After a competitive application and selection process, five high-potential startups have been selected to participate in the first cohort of this cutting-edge accelerator. The companies selected represent a range of next-generation capabilities in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, software and wearable defense tech.

ALFA INSURANCE PLANS MOVE TO CAPITOL COMMERCE CENTER IN MONTGOMERY

Alfa Insurance is negotiating to purchase the Capitol Commerce Center off I-85 in Montgomery as its new corporate headquarters. The move comes after Alfa determined half of its current space is underutilized due to technology and workforce changes. The company aims to invest in the Montgomery community by creating jobs and developing civic leaders. Montgomery City Council and County Commission have approved about $ 7 million in incentives to support the relocation. Alfa expects to complete due diligence and close on the property by summer, with a phased move-in after renovations. The company will maintain its existing campus while seeking a buyer.
