Southern Living ran a reader poll to find the best meat n ’ three restaurants in Alabama , and two Montgomery spots rose to the top : Pannie-George ’ s Kitchen of Auburn and Montgomery , beloved for its rotating menu of Southern comfort food staples and famous fried chicken , and Martin ’ s Restaurant , known for its fried chicken pulley bones as well as regional favorites like fried okra , mashed potatoes and pineapple casserole .

Montgomery artist Michelle Browder unveiled a new traveling health clinic , a mobile medical “ pod ” camper that she and her team plan to travel in once a month , for three days , to provide necessary services for those in any stage of motherhood . She plans to bring maternal healthcare services to those living in rural areas and provide services from a doula , a midwife and an obstetrician-gynecologist . According to 2022 data from the National Center for Health Statistics , the maternal mortality rate in the U . S . is the highest it ’ s been in decades , and for Black women , it ’ s more than twice the average rate and almost three times the rate of their White counterparts .
