Burial

Our staff will assist with the scheduling of the burial , will greet your funeral guests at our entrance gate and lead them as a group to the burial site , and will assist the family with whatever level of involvement they wish to have in the actual burial .
Ultimately , our goal is to provide the best possible experience for everyone attending a burial service at the Cemetery .

Scheduling the Burial

In general , funerals must be scheduled 48 hours in advance by contacting the administrative office at 617-547-7105 .

Processing to the Cemetery

You may arrive at the cemetery in procession ( typically led by a funeral director ) or your family may chose to meet and gather for the burial at the Cemetery . In both instances , Mount Auburn personnel will lead the procession from our Mount Auburn Street entrance to the grave site .

Moving the Body to the Grave

Pall bearers ( typically , Mount Auburn staff and / or funeral directors ) will transfer the shrouded body or casket from the vehicle to a rolling bier . While on the bier , family and friends may escort the body alongside the bier as it rolls . Mount Auburn staff will transfer the body from the bier to the lowering device setup over the grave prior to the family ’ s arrival .
