Why am I a member of the Research User Group at Keele ?
Well , if it wasn ’ t for the doctors , nurses and ambulance staff of the NHS I wouldn ’ t be here today . I would have died at the age of thirteen in 1957 . A second main reason is that my daughter ( now 43 ) nearly died at one year old from multiple allergies . She was saved by the wonderful Great Ormond Street Hospital . I therefore give the NHS as much support as I can .
Whenever we are online , or at Keele in person , we are welcomed and treated with respect and as equals . If we think the professors are talking rubbish , we can tell them we think they ’ re talking rubbish , and we ’ re listened to . And it ’ s nice getting acknowledgements that we have In our own way improved and changed the course of the research .
I make no bones about it but I am a pedant and champion for good English , both spoken and written . The English language is a strange and wonderful thing ; and is alive and kicking .
