I have had a lot of medical treatment from the wonderful NHS over the years and I wanted to give something back . Then I found the Research User Group at Keele .
I really feel we are helping the researchers . No matter how much knowledge they have , unless they have the medical condition , they don ’ t understand the difficulties we experience .
As an example of our help , one researcher was investigating using photographic Artificial Intelligence to diagnose Osteoarthritis of the hand . He did not realise that my hand swells when it is bad . That could have meant failure of the whole project .
