The Midnight Cries (pt.4 of 6)

They ran up the stairs and down the familiar
halls where they had been just the night before.
Adam made it first through the door followed
closely by Jason. Adam breathlessly made his way
over to the grandfather clock standing by the far
wall, and placing his head on the wall to steady
himself. Jason stared at the clock whose hands
both pointed to the 6 indicating 6:30, he didn’t see
anything wrong with the clock just the fact that it
was the wrong time. Adam then raised his hand
and moved the hour hand in between the 6 and
7, then suddenly the wall beside them shifted and
an opening appeared. Adam, placing one hand on
his chest and the other, still placed against the wall
slowly moved into the passage, Jason standing there
for a second in a daze and then moving quickly
after Adam.
“Adam how did you get that clock to work?”
Jason said just above a whisper.
“No clock represents 6:30 with both hands
at the 6, that’s not even a real a time.” They both
walked the rest of the way down the dark hall in
silence. The small corridor was only lighted by
torches that where on the wall. “Someone is down
here.”
“How do you know that did you hear something?”
“No, how else would the torches be lit if no
one was here before us.” They then came upon a
branch where the corridor split into two corridors;
Adam looked down both of them and then bent
down to the ground still clenching his chest. Jason
watching him, Adam stood and dropped his arms.
“I’ll go this way, you go the other way.”
Adam said as he started to walk down the hall to
the right. Jason about to protest but decided that
Adam knew what he was doing so without a word
he turned and left.
Jason walked slowly feeling the walls as he went,
the light barely making the objects in front of him
visible. Wooden doors lined the hall, and as he
came to them he opened them peeked inside and
then closed the door again. The corridor went on
and on and Jason stopped for a bit to rest, he placed
his back up against the wall and allowed his legs to
give way beneath him. His back slid against the wall
until he sat comfortable on the floor.
Adam walked down the hall, his heart beating awkwardly inside of his chest making it hard for
him to breath. Struggling not to lose consciousness,
and to see what was ahead of him. The hall had
wooden doors on either side, but he walked straight
not wasting time to look into any of them. He
knew exactly who Kirran was and exactly where he
would find him and Claire. He placed his hand over
his heart trying to steady it, leaning against the hall
for support. He started coughing uncontrollably
he covered his mouth as blood splattered out. He
looked up his vision starting to blur, and continued
slowly down the hall.
Jason opened his eyes and looked around
into the darkness, wondering how long was he
sleeping for. He quickly caught up and started
jogging down the hall trying to make up for lost
time. He ran into every room check to make sure
he wasn’t missing anything. Starting to doubt if
there was anything really down here, he ran into
one room and was about to run out when he heard
a small voice.
“Please don’t leave me alone.” Jason turned
and looked and in the darkness in a corner he saw
a small figure curled up against the floor. Jason
walked over and in the dim light he saw her electric blue eyes and her young marked face. He had
found Erika James.
