2017-18 PRIORITIES
Longhorns Read to Lead is the new district-wide
reading program.
C
HISD provides more services to students
than any other public or private option
in the city. It is the leading choice for
education in Cedar Hill and its largest employer.
To maintain this status, the district has set
priorities for the 2017-18 school year.
Superintendent Search
In June Orlando Riddick
accepted the superintendent
position at Midland ISD, and the
CHISD Board of Trustees named
former CHISD administrator
Larry Watson, Ed.D., interim
superintendent. A search firm
Watson
will screen potential candidates,
and public meetings will be held to help refine
characteristics and qualifications for the position.
Information will be posted on chisd.net once
meetings are scheduled.
Enrollment
In July the district opened enrollment for the
2017-18 school year. See page 5 for more about
how the district is making enrollment a priority.
Attendance
The district is urging students, parents, staff and
the community to help increase attendance.
Average daily attendance in 2016-17 was
95.89 percent. This year’s goal is 97 percent.
To make the goal a reality, the district will send
information to families about the importance
of attendance, campuses will host competitions,
and students will be rewarded throughout
the year.
District-wide Reading Initiative
CHISD wants all students reading at or above
grade level. To achieve this, the district
launched Longhorns Read to Lead for students
in kindergarten through second grade during
the 2017 spring break. This school year the
program is expanding to all grades.
