Creative Corner
CHISD offers vast opportunities for students to experience and learn
fine arts. Here is what’s new for high school students in 2017-18.
Band
The Longhorn Red Army Band Class of 2017 earned nearly $1 million in scholarships. Led by band
director William Young; Derrick Walker, associate director; and Alexander Riggins, assistant director,
15 seniors were awarded $845,200. See and hear the talent of the CHHS band during every home
football game. Plus, watch high school marching bands from Texas and Louisiana compete in the
Cedar Hill Battle of the Bands on Saturday, Sept. 16, in Longhorn Stadium at 6 p.m. Tickets are $10 in
advance and $15 at the gate. Purchase tickets online at chlonghornband.ludus.com.
Theatre
The CHHS Theatre Department has three fall productions
you won’t want to miss. The curtain rises Friday, Sept. 22,
with “Dani Girl,” the story of a precocious child who loses
her hair to leukemia and embarks on a magical journey
to get it back. In October the entire family will love the
“Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon.” Two narrators and
several actors attempt to combine all 209 Grimm classics,
including “Snow White,” “Cinderella” and “Hansel and
Gretel.” On Friday, Oct. 27, stick around after the home
football game for the spooky “Fairy Tales from Down
Under Haunted House.” There’s a repeat performance the
next night. Tickets are required for all events. Check the
calendar on page 18 for more information.
