Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority ’ s Omega Delta Omega Chapter Donates to CDU
The Alpha Kappa Alpha ( AKA ) Sorority , Inc ., Omega Delta Omega Chapter visited the campus to make a $ 1,000 donation to the University for student scholarships .
“ As a means to support HBCU ’ s , our chapter voted to adopt Charles Drew University , the only recognized HBCU in California ,” said Tamela R . Cash-Curry , Esq ., President , Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority , Inc . ( R ), Omega Delta Omega Chapter . “ Service to all mankind is the motto of our sorority and supporting an institution that trains and educates students to provide excellent service to the community seemed a logical extension of our mission .”
Elouise Tye , Chairman of the HBCU Committee , and Joycelyn Monson-Gordon , HBCU Committee Member , were also present during the check presentation .
AKA Sorority , Inc . is an international service organization , founded in 1908 on the campus of Howard University in Washington , DC . It is the oldest Greek-letter organization established by African-American college-educated women . AKA Sorority , Inc . has more than 325,000 initiated members in graduate and undergraduate chapters located in 12 countries including the United States , Bahamas , Bermuda , Canada , Dubai , Germany , Japan , Liberia , Nigeria , South Korea , South Africa and the U . S . Virgin Islands .
OSP Delivers National Talk at Cayuse Connect
Team members from CDU ’ s Office of Sponsored Partnerships ( OSP ) were invited to deliver a national talk remotely on “ Proposal Readiness - Preparing Administrators and Investigators for Successful Submission ,” to an audience of users of the Cayuse research administration platform .
Several hundred users attended the event , which was held as part of the Connect by Cayuse 2022 Conference in October . The five-member office , which includes Perilla Jonhnson-Woodard , Director , Office of Sponsored Programs , April Walter-Brown , Manager , Contracts and Grants Operations , Keith Andre , Contracts and Grants Analyst ( Non-Financial Post Award Administration ), Montel Rudolph , Contracts and Grants Analyst ( Pre-Award Administration ), and Girma Badebo , Grants Development Specialist ( Pre-Award Administration ) highlighted what they ’ ve learned in their careers with more than 80 years ’ collective experience in research administration .
This event was a great opportunity for our office to interact with participants and present our information ,” said Montel Rudolph , Contracts & Grants Analyst , who was one of the presenters for the event . “ Participants responded that it was useful , and really liked the after-the-fact proposal review information .”
OSP is the University ’ s central office responsible for providing faculty and staff with comprehensive services such as the review , submission , negotiation , and acceptance of extramural grants , contracts , cooperative agreements , and clinical trials for research , training , and other sponsored activities . The office supports the University ’ s efforts to identify mission appropriate sources of external support , establish productive business relationships with those sponsors , and to manage those grants and contracts effectively .
