CDU Celebrates Women ’ s History Month with Women ’ s Empowerment Series
CDU celebrated Women ’ s History Month with a two-part Women ’ s Empowerment Series that featured leaders across the University .
Part one of the series , “ Thriving Authentically ,” was moderated by student Brianna Willis and featured a conversation with Senior Vice President of Advancement and Operations Angela Minniefield , Special Assistant to the President Sylvia Drew Ivie , and Dean of the School of Nursing Ma Recanita Jhocson .
“ Being an advocate for those who are up and coming . Being willing to share your experiences . Being willing to mentor other women , particularly women of color , as well as serve as a coach and a friend ,” said Ms . Minniefield . “ Create spaces for women to share their experiences and be comfortable sharing their experiences – the good as well as the not so good – as well as how they may have overcome or conquered the not so good .”
Part of the discussion was about the topic of what women empowerment means to them , and how they model it in their daily life . Ms . Drew Ivie shared about how she learned to advocate for sense of my own capacity to speak to the issues that I cared about and that would move us all forward ,” said Ms . Drew Ivie .
Part two of the series , “ Providing Healing , Promoting Hope ,” was moderated by student Stephanie Johnson , and featured a conversation with Interim Dean of Undergraduate and Graduate Studies Keosha Partlow , Dean of College of Medicine Deborah Prothrow-Stith , Campus Nursing Officer Delia Santana and Senior Vice President of Finance Elizabeth Baskerville .
“ One thing I ’ ve always reminded myself is that I am always growing and always learning , I am always looking at opportunities to be my best self ,” said Dr . Santana . “ We have to always remember where our areas of concern are versus the areas of control . Look at the here and the now , and look at your contribution to what you are doing now .”
The two-part series , hosted by Student Services , allowed attendees to learn about leaders in the University and their experiences as trailblazers , healers , activists and leaders .
