APLA Health Center Now Open
The APLA Health Center opened on the west end of campus , bringing a range of free and low-cost health services to CDU students , faculty , staff , and the surrounding community .
APLA , a trusted community leader since 1983 , has a mission to restore dignity and trust within underserved communities by providing world-class LGBTQ + empowering healthcare , support services , and HIV specialty care .
“ We strive to improve the health of South Los Angeles by providing access to quality medical and dental care to the CDU community , and also by providing learning opportunities for students ,” said David P . Lee , Clinic Director II . “ We go to great lengths to ensure that LGBTQ + and other underserved communities know that they are welcome at our clinic .”
Services offered at this facility include dental , behavioral health , medical , HIV testing and treatment , STD screening and treatment , Pre-exposure Prophylaxis ( PrEP ) and Post-exposure Prophylaxis ( PEP ). The addition of the facility on CDU ’ s campus allows for APLA to continue their work to expand services to meet the growing and changing needs of persons living with HIV / AIDS .

Some of the programs at the clinic include Out Here Sexual Health Services , which aims to empower a new generation about sexual health through making sexual health services accessible for the LGBTQ + community in Los Angeles County . It also includes the Vance North Necessities of Life Program , the nation ’ s largest network of food pantry programs for people living with HIV / AIDS , offering free groceries weekly to Los Angeles County residents living with HIV / AIDS .
