CDU Welcomes Inaugural Cohort to Historic MD Program
CDU embarked on an extraordinary journey in July 2023, as it welcomed the inaugural cohort of students to its historic MD program.
The launch of CDU’ s MD program carries immense significance, particularly in diversifying the physician workforce. As the first independent 4-year medical degree program offered through a historically black institution west of the Mississippi, this milestone will pave the way for increased diversity and inclusion within the medical field.
Graduating 60 diverse and diverse-minded doctors annually starting in 2027, this program aims to address healthcare disparities and foster equitable access to quality care in under-resourced communities.
Pivotal Partnerships
The first Dana Center Initiative grant is launching at the University of California, Los Angeles with CDU. Under a five-year matched funds partnership totaling $ 9.8 million, the universities and the Dana Foundation will bring together scholars from neuroscience, social sciences, education, policy, and the humanities to work with local clinician-scholars, community partners, and organizations in South Los Angeles to reimagine the relationship between neuroscience and the public. The Center will be an incubator for community-partnered research collaborations and training multidisciplinary neuro-society experts.
Sutter Health, one of the nation’ s largest integrated health care systems, and CDU, announced a new, long-term collaboration to expand access to a more inclusive and equitable care experience in California. The effort kicks off with the launch of two significant initiatives.
The first is one of the largest scholarship programs in CDU’ s history, designed to build a stronger pipeline of diverse physicians. The second is the creation of the Health Equity Alliance for Research & Evaluation to serve as an incubator lab to accelerate health equity research into clinical practice.
