I sit down on the grass and lay down , feel the wet earth smush underneath my elbows and back and mold into the crooks of my neck . I run into the house and lean against the door , feeling my heart racing . This type of running feels good .
I see that my husband has called . I don ’ t bother making an attempt to call him back .
There is a full moon that night . I stretch out in our bed and feel the dirt pooling onto the sheets . When I stand up , there is a streak of dirt on my jaw . The front door opens and slams downstairs .
I meet him , my husband . He is standing at the doorway . He looks so clean . “ Did you feel the rain ?” “ No ,” He looks at me like I ’ ve lost it . “ Did you fall asleep outside ?”
“ No . The rain felt good . You missed it .” I cross my arms and knock my ankles together . The smell of the dirt overpowers my nostrils . My husband stands there , waiting for me to rush to his side . “ Maybe you should come later .”
“ Don ’ t you want to talk now ?” “ About what ?”
He shakes his head , turning to the door . I watch it close behind him . Outside , it begins to rain . Maybe he will feel the rain now .
