Cateechee Chronicle November - December 2013 | Page 3

FROM THE GOLF SHOP NEWLY CROWNED CHAMPIONS Congratulations to Jeanine Douglas for successfully defending her title as Ladies Club Champion and to Dana Brown for winning his second Men’s Senior Club Championship. Each player held off stiff competition well enough from their respective fields to, once again, take home the trophies. Great play was also enjoyed by Tammy Hutchinson and Scott Hardigree for winning the First Place Net title in each of the championships, as well. Thanks also goes to all who participated and enjoyed a great weekend of competition. Bring on 2014! THE BUCKAROO Wednesday, November 27 | 12:30 pm Shotgun Start This annual event has become a Cateechee favorite, as well as a great kick off to the holiday season. The format is easy. Pick your own partner for a two person scramble and make your own foursome out of people with whom you enjoy playing golf. This event is open to friends and family of Cateechee members and is handicapped. Only those players signed up in the golf shop by the entry deadline of Saturday, November 23 will be guaranteed a position in the tournament. After November 23, sign up will be based on space availability. Sign up sheets and additional information items are posted in the golf shop. MEMBER APPRECIATION Thank you to all of the members who joined us for our Member Appreciation event! We hope all of our members know how much we appreciate them. The below images, and those on the cover are from the Member Appreciation night. Wine & Cheese Party Thursday, December 5 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm The golf shop staff would like to invite you to its annual Wine & Cheese Party. Come by the golf shop, enjoy some holiday cheer and take advantage of some “Party Only” prices on the gift giving items you’ve been thinking about. Those that attended last year will recommend you arrive early as we had about sixty members in the golf shop at one time picking up some great deals. We look forward to seeing all of you then! ON THE GREEN MASON BOWERS, SENIOR ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT The greens healed quickly from the Fall aeration and are back to the playing conditions we expect at Cateechee. We used a smaller tine this year, which allowed the holes to fill and grow in more rapidly. With the cooler months coming up, the conditions of the greens will only improve. As we go into the winter months, we will be doing a lot of detailing work around the course. Renovating sand bunkers and repairing damaged drain basins will be top priorities. The planting of our annual flowers is complete. The beauty of the flowers, along with all the changing colors that come with the Fall season, will enhance our marvelous club. The winter rye grass is looking great and will provide a good playing surface for the upcoming season. I would also like to say “Thank You” to everyone for abiding to the path only rule during the grow in of the over-seed. This makes a big difference in what we are trying to accomplish, which is to make “YOUR” club stand out as the “Best!” By doing this, it allows the seed to have even germination and work its way down to the soil so we can have an outstanding playing surface for our members and guests! As always, thank you for supporting Cateechee Golf Club! w w w. c a t e e c h e e . c o m Club Connection | November/December 2013
