Editor's Letter

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, isn’t it? Well, at least we’re eager to unpack all of our Christmas decorations (and some of us already have). I bet you’ve started humming your favourite Christmas songs daily. No wonder it’s our favourite season. Because it is the season of joy, giving and miracles. It’s that time of the year when we look back to see what we have accomplished and evaluate the things we didn’t, which is perfectly fine - because we know we’ve tried our best.

So many things happened this year, it sure feels like it has flown by and now we are approaching this year’s final days. It’s less than two months before the New Year, which will bring new beginnings, new friends, and new projects. But, while we are still in 2017, let’s prepare ourselves for all the amazing festivities our city offers during the Christmas season.

In this issue you will be able to read about new businesses, big and small, new projects, music venues and more! We’ve also put together some delicious recipes for your Christmas table and for the morning after too! And hey, are there any Game of Thrones fans reading? We have an article written by a Casa London ambassador in Northern Ireland, about filming locations!

The most bright and important part of this issue is the Christmas Gifts Catalogue. We’ve gathered together a selection of both unique and handmade products from talented makers across Canada. Christmas gifts ideas? We’ve got you covered! Just dive into our Catalogue to find the perfect gift for your loved ones.

And last but not least, as the weather doesn’t turns and gone are the days that keep us warm, we need to find ways to do this ourselves. So, I’ve decided to help – by sharing my own mulled wine recipe with you. But there’s one condition, you must promise me to enjoy the season and live your life to the fullest! It is that simple – enjoy (responsibly!)

Homemade Mulled Wine

- 1 bottle of red dry wine

- 1/3 of a lemon to squeeze

- 1/2 of an orange, sliced

- A pinch of cinnamon

- A pinch of grounded nutmeg

- 1-2 cloves

- 1 bay leaf

- 2-3 allspice peas (whole, not grounded)

- 1-2 tbsp. of honey

- 200 ml of water

1. Pour wine and water into a pot, mix, and leave on a stove on a medium heat.

2. Add all spices, squeeze the lemon, and add whole orange slices. Mix everything and warm it up, but do not boil. Cook for 10-15 mins that should be enough for all the spices to soak and unveil their aroma.

3. Lower the heat to a minimum level, add honey and mix well. Pour into mugs. The rest, if any, should be left on a stove top to simmer, become more intense and keep warm.

4. Serve with love!

Now grab that mulled wine, your tablet or a laptop and indulge yourself in the Casa London Magazine Christmas Issue.

Have a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you all!

- Anna
