Gunner Supercross 2017 Concluded With Multiple Wins to both Gayan and Ashan
The Gunner Supercross 2017, which was organised as a collaboration between the Sri Lanka Automobile Drivers Association (SLADA) and the Artillery regiment of the Sri Lankan military, was held successfully for the 12th consecutive year on the 6th of August 2017, at the Gunner racetrack located in Mineriya.
This year’s event was planned as the second edition of the CEAT SLADA championship and was concluded in success, with the participation of drivers and riders from around the country.
Gayan Sandaruwan as one of Sri Lanka's top motorcyclists, had quite a poor start as he took off from the block as the last rider, at the first race of Group MX. Ishan Dassanayake, the current national champion, was at the front battling it out with Shehan C Adikari, who was trying to make a comeback from his injuries. Nevertheless, Gayan with all his experience started to charge his way to the front in the fourth lap, eventually overtaking Ishan to win the race.
Ashan Silva, in the meanwhile, took his maiden Best driver award at Gunner Supercross, after competing at the SL GT cars up to 3500cc event. Ashan comfortably won both races he participated in, with only the upcoming driver Kushan Peiris edging close to giving him a challenge.
