Organised by the Sri Lanka Navy, in association with the Asian Motor Racing Club (AMRC) and the Sri Lanka Association of Racing Drivers and Riders (SLARDAR), the 2017 Colombo Supercross was successfully held on the 7th of May at the Naval Racing Track in Welisara.

The day was marked by light rains, but this was not enough to stop two of the best drivers and riders in the country, Ashan Silva and Shanuka Sandaruwan, from showing off their colours on the gravel circuit at the NRC. Ashan took the proud honours of being the best driver with relatively no competition while Shanuka showed his talents by winning his first championship award.

Shanuka Sandaruwan’s elder brother Gayan Sandaruwan, who is also a decorated rider with an impressive nine championship wins, was unable to attend this year’s race due to an unfortunate injury to his arm. Nevertheless, Shanuka demonstrated that he is more than capable of carrying the family’s honour.

Ashan Silva continued his winning streak, having won the tournament award at Foxhill Supercross that was held last April. Without a doubt, he has been in his best form after being trained by the distinguished Sri Lankan racing legend Dilantha Malagamuwa, which eventually led to him winning two SL - GT Cars up to 3500cc events at this year’s race.

Other riders and drivers who managed to shine at the Colombo Supercross 2017 included Ajith Kumara, Imal Manchanayake, Manjula Wijesinghe and Kushan Peiris.

Kushan Peiris showed promise by winning the Group SL N Standard Cars up to 1300cc and Group SL H Cars up to 1618cc tournaments. Just like Ashan Silva, Kushan has also been in a winning streak with consecutive doubles in recent play-offs.
