There will be an exciting art exhibit in June from artist David Rogers entitled , “ Big Bugs + Pollinators .” This traveling art exhibit explores nature in a big way with oversized wooden sculptures such as a 5-ft . flower with a 3-ft . hummingbird . The exhibit also features a massive dragonfly that floats on the water and has an 11-ft . wingspan ! Though adults will enjoy this one , it ’ s a natural for kids as well . The display will run from June 15 through Sept . 15 .
There are also art exhibits in the Welcome Center with local artists Lauren Braun and Peggi Habets co-exhibiting with “ Untangling Our Roots ,” which runs March through June . You ’ ll be amazed at the beautiful artwork , which displays each artist ’ s unique viewpoint of the natural world .
Of course Pittsburgh Botanic Garden ’ s regular programming is ongoing , including yoga and meditation for adults in the garden . The peaceful nature surrounding you provides the perfect atmosphere for quieting the mind . You can also experience forest bathing in a slow , reflective walk through the woodlands , designed to give a sensory immersion in nature .
There are plenty of fun activities for kids at the garden as well . Seedlings , a weekly program for children ages 3-6 , helps kids connect with nature while inspiring their creativity . Each visit includes a story reading , with time spent in the garden ’ s different habitats .
In early June , Nature Adventure Camps for kids start up . The camps are very popular every year and they book up quickly , so be sure to watch the website for dates available . Children get to connect with nature with hands-on activities and plenty of opportunities for exploration . The camps are either one day or four days .
Pittsburgh Botanic Garden offers nature , art and fun at a place that ’ s close to home . Spring is a great time to get out and do a little “ Gardening ”! n
