This Summer's Best
Forget Glastonbury or Reading and Leeds - the weather is always rubbish and your clothes are ruined by mud! Instead, head to warmer climes to experience something different this summer. From pop, to heavy metal and even jazz, you're well catered for.
Here's our run-down of a selection of European music festivals to head to in 2019, in no particular order.
PRIMAVERA SOUND
Alternative/Electronic/Indie
WHERE: Barcelona, Spain
WHEN: 30 May - 1 June 2019
TICKET COST: £71 - £175
Now in its 19th year, Primavera Sound has become one of the world's best-known music festivals.
Over 226 acts have been announced for the event, and more than half are female fronted. The likes of Cardi B, Janelle Monáe, Solange, Erykah Badu and Rosalía are headlining.
ULTRA EUROPE
EDM/Electronic/House/Techno
WHERE: Split, Croatia
WHEN: 11-18 July 2019
TICKET COST: £88 - £152
Ultra Europe is a dance music festival which takes place each summer in Croatia and showcases the biggest names in EDM, house, and techno.
The line-up for this year's festival is still to be announced, but in past years the festival has seen DJ sets from David Guetta and Eric Prydz.
Sziget Festival
Alternative/Indie/Pop/Rock
WHERE: Budapest, Hungary
WHEN: 7-13 August 2019
TICKET COST: £66 - £286
Sziget Festival is one of the biggest multi-genre music festivals in the world, going steady since 1993. Taking over an island in Budapest, over 550,000 revelers are welcomed each year.
This year the festival has all the big names such as Ed Sheeran, Foo Fighters, and Florence + The Machine, and lesser known acts, too.
Jazz:Re:Found
Disco/Jazz/Soul
WHERE: Turin, Italy
WHEN: 21-23 June 2019
TICKET COST: £35
Held annually in the Italian city of Turin, Jazz:Re:Found is an electric music festival that celebrates the lasting legacy of jazz and its influence on a diverse array of modern genres.
The festival boasts an impressive and diverse roster of past performers such as Motor City Drum Ensemble, Goldie, Tama Sumo and more.
hellfest
Rock/Heavy Metal
WHERE: Clisson, France
WHEN: 21-23 June 2019
TICKET COST: £100+
Held in its current form since 2006, Hellfest is now well established and previous line-ups have included both well-established bands and those new on the scene.
This year you can catch legends such as KISS, Def Leppard, and Stone Temple Pilots.
ROSKILDE FESTIVAL
Electronic/Indie/Pop/Rock
WHERE: Roskilde, Denmark
WHEN: 29 June - 6 July 2019
TICKET COST: £120 - £250
Roskilde Festival is the oldest and biggest music festival in Northern Europe. Rock, heavy metal, urban music and pop are showcased on its iconic orange stage.
With more than 180 music acts performing across eight stages, you can catch a diverse range such as Robyn, The Cure and Cardi B.
